#2558 Mortar and Pestle - $35.00

Use this pestle and 5" dia. mortar for grinding enamel lumps into powder, for grinding powder into finer grains and for mixing dry porcelain enamel with water. Grinding enamel that has started to deteriorate can improve it somewhat.

Enamel that goes through the 325 mesh sieve can be used as painting enamel. Use the solid caps on the top and bottom of the sieve to keep enamel dust exposure to a minimum.

Beadrackrev

BEAD FIRING TOOLS
#2515-1 Stainless Steel Mesh
6" X 6" - $3.00
#2515-2 Stainless Steel mesh
1' X 1' - $7.00
#2587 Bead Mandrels 6" long
- $5.00/6 mandrels

This stainless steel mesh makes excellent bead racks. The mandrels are also stainless steel and are .062" in diameter and have tapered ends that will fit through most of the holes in the copper beads shown in the "METALS" section. Coat the mandrels with Scalex (see the SUPPLIES section) to prevent your enameled bead from sticking.

Rackforkrev

#2548 Firing Fork (22' long) - $16.25
#2549-1 Firing Rack
3" X 3" - $3.50
#2549-2 Firing Rack
4" X 4" - $4.00
#2549-3 Firing Rack
6" X 6" - $9.00
#2549-4 Firing Rack
(12" X 12") - $30.00

The fork is used to lift the firing rack into and out of the kiln. Use the racks to support trivets. These heavy duty stainless steel racks are supplied flat so bend over 4 corners or 2 sides to raise the platform to accommodate a fork.

#2613-1 Light Weight Rack
(3" x 3") - $4.00
#2613-2  Light Weight Rack
(4" X 4") - $4.75
#2613-3  Light Weight Rack
(6" X 6") - $8.50

These light weight stainless steel racks come with 2 sides pre-bent. These work well in small kilns and for lighter pieces. They are less of a "heat sink" than the heavier racks above.

Smspatrev

#2592 Small Firing Spatula - $7.50

These are 9 inches long with a 2 1/2" X 1" platform. You will find these handy for use with small kilns such as Hotplate furnaces and Ultra-Lite kilns.

Cerplaterev

#2518 Ceramic Plate (2 1/4" X 2 3/8") - $12.50
#2519 Alumina Tray
(3" X 3 1/4") - $15.00
#2518-1 Set of both - $25.00

The ceramic plate is a hard, non-porous, non-stick plate for firing small flat plique-a-jour or counter enameled pieces. Because it is non-porous it is easy to wet pack enamel directly on the plate without having the moisture wicked away. It leaves a nice smooth surface on the fired enamel. Use the alumina tray under it to prevent heat shocking the ceramic plate. Warm the plate + tray on top of the kiln or under heat lamps before and after firing. Note: you will probably need to fire longer than usual.

Micarev

#2517 Clear Muscovite Mica (6" X 6", .005" thick) - $8.50 each
                                                                                 - $38.00 / 5 sheets
#2541 Black Phlogopite Mica
(6" X 6", .007 - .01" thick) - $12.50 each
                                                                                          - $55.00 / 5 sheets

Mica is often used as a temporary backing surface for plique-a-jour or to hold counter enameled pieces while firing. Small flakes of mica will adhere to the enamel but can be ground off or left as is. We suggest the clear mica for plique-a-jour but the black for everything else because it holds up longer to the high temperatures in the kiln. Reusable.

#2617-1 Thin Refractory Fiber 6" X 6" $2.00 each
#2617-2 Thin Refractory Fiber 12" X 12" $5.00 each

These can be used as a backing for a fired, counter enameled piece. The refractory fiber will leave a subtle texture in the enamel but will not stick. One time firing only.

Lava2

#2614-1 Lava Cloth (6" X 6") - $4.25
#2614-2 Lava Cloth
(12" X 12") - $8.50

This fiberglass fabric will not stick to lead bearing enamels and will leave a texture on the enamel. Each side leaves a different texture. A textured counter-enamel would be a plus when gluing on findings. Use lava cloth in lieu of a trivet or mica when firing. Reusable.

Glove

#2547 Firing Gloves - $29.00 per pair

These firing gloves are heat resistant and comfortably flexible. Made of Kevlar with no asbestos. One size fits most.

PolyIRrev

#2525 Poly IR Glasses (shade 3.0) - $10.00

These are the plastic version of calobar lenses. They protect your eyes from the infrared and ultra-violet radiation of the kiln. Long-term unprotected exposure from looking into a hot kiln can cause cataracts.

GRINDING TOOLS

alumdumrev

#2520-1 150 Grit Alundum Stone - $10.25 each
#2520-2 220 Grit Alundum Stone - $10.25 each
#2520-3 Set of both Alundum Stones - $19.00 per pair

These 6" X 1" X1" stones are softer than carborundum and will take on the shape of the piece you are grinding. Good for removing a large mass of enamel.

Diasticks

#2528-4 800 Grit Diamond Pad Grinding Stick - $7.50
#2528-5 Set of all 4 Diamond Pad Grinding Sticks - $28.00

These 6 1/4" long diamond sticks are wonderful for hand grinding. The 1 1/2" X 1/2" diamond pad is aggressive enough to remove enamel yet not as apt to gouge the metal as stones.

Longdia

#2589-1 Set of Long Diamond Sticks - $26.00
#2589-2 Stick alone - $3.50
#2589-3 60 Grit Strips - $27.50 / set of 5

Set #2589-1 contains l stick + 4 grits of diamond abrasive. The stick is 1' long with a 6" strip of velcro attached. The diamond strips are each 6" long and velcro backed so they are easily changed. The long length of diamond allows for a long grinding stroke. A lot of diamond for your dollar!

Diapad

#2573-1 120 Grit Diapad Hand Lap - $20.00
#2573-2 200 Grit Diapad Hand Lap - $17.50
#2573-3 400 Grit Diapad Hand Lap - $15.00
#2573-4 800 Grit Diapad Hand Lap - $15.00
#2573-5 Set of all 4 Diapad Hand Laps - $62.00

These hand laps have diamond abrasive laminated to a flexible, sponge like foam material. Each pad is 2 1/4" X 3 3/4" and works very well for grinding larger pieces and curved shapes. Also works well with very small shapes which can be turned upside down and ground on the upturned Diapad.

Discs2

#2590-1 Diamond Disc Set - $13.50
#2590-2 60 Grit Discs - $8.50 / set of 5

#2590-7 Mandrels - $25.00 for 5

The Diamond disc set #2590-1 contains 5 discs (1 of each grit) + a mandrel. Each diamond disc is 1" in diameter and Velcro backed. The mandrel included with the set has a 1/8" diameter shaft to fit your Dremel or flex shaft.

#2502 Large Glass Brush (5/8" dia.) - $35.00

These 6" long, rubber sheathed, glass fiber brushes work well for removing loose firescale, pickle residue or grinding grit from your enameled piece. They will shine metal without scratching the enamel and do not break or wear out as fast as many smaller glass brushes. Use as is and cut off sections of the rubber sheath as the brush wears out or remove the sheath and wrap with string to unwind as needed.
